Opening of Catfield Higashi Karate Club
A motley crew of karateka from Maldon and an extra special guest all the way from Bracknell Higashi (Tony Sergent) made the journey north and east to a place very close to Great Yarmouth known as Catfield, the new home of ex-Maldon club member Dave Collins, to support him on the opening day of his new club in his new home town! We all had fun training alongside his raw recruits from the town and then we retired to Dave's new homestead for a most excellent barbecue! There is a

HKK Christmas Kata Course - December 2025
What a way to end 2025! Higashi clubs travelled from far and wide across the country, from deepest darkest Essex and Norfolk to the wild west of Wales, from the depths of Cornwall to the lofty heights of Staffordshire - all to attend the much-anticipated Christmas Kata Course and Grading in Swindon on 13th December. After a sweaty warmup lead by Tony Sergent we covered basics and ran though the pinan katas and then moved on to kata with bunkai with top tips from Senseis Steve

Black & Brown Belt Course - Nazeing - November 2025
On Saturday 15th November we returned to St Giles Church Hall for the first time since the pandemic started in 2020 and found the hall was beautifully refurbished and upgraded. A great setting for our return to training to Nazeing! The course was hosted by Jon Dunn (6th dan) and Sue Skinner (7th dan) concentrating on improving our form for the basic katas before we split into separate groups to practice grade appropriate katas with Jon, Sue and Steve Gibbs (7th dan) patrollin

Donegal Training Course - November 2025
Well, another great trip to Ireland for an excellent weekend course in Donegal. Starting with a road trip from Belfast with Ciaran Donnelly showing me some of the wonderful sites and walks around County Donegal, which I will certainly be doing in the future. Friday started with a fast paced session at the Kinclasslagh club run by Paul McNally and Dominic Shannon, for Brown and Black belts working on form and combinations in Kata. Great effort from all with lots of sweat and g

Cardiff Kata Course - October 2025
Just two short weeks after the course in Sligo it was down to Cardiff for an Autumn course led by Jon Dunn at the club of Nikki Lintern-Gittens. An excellent sweaty Friday night session at Nikki's dojo to get everyone in the mood, with Jon keeping everyone on their toes with his unique style of teaching. On the Saturday another packed session with over 50 attendees at the much bigger and better air conditioned hall! Senior instructors split them into groups to cover basics, k

New Club In Norfolk - Catfield Higashi
Please join us in celebrating the opening of a new club in Catfield in Norfolk - just a little way north of Great Yarmouth! Dave Collins, formerly of Maldon, will be welcoming students through the doors of his dojo from 10th January 2026. We wish Dave all the best in his endeavour and hope to see his club grow. Why not pop along to Catfield Village Hall, The Street, Catfield, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, NR29 5AA one Saturday morning between 9am and 11am to show your support? Fo

Sligo Kata Course - September 2025
Just a few short weeks after the course in Yeovil seven intrepid travellers from the UK made very different journeys to the far off land of Sligo to attend their favourite overseas course in the Emerald isle. On Thursday Sensei Steve Bell set out from Reading whilst Simon M travelled from Essex to meet him at Luton airport to get their plane. All was going great until Simon remembered he’d forgotten his passport and had to go back home to retrieve it missing the flight over.

Squad News - Dutch Open
KML Academy students went to Amsterdam this week to represent KML, Higashi and England on the international stage. The squad were comprised of Myla K, Inaya S, Janelle K, Aiden E, Nya O, Freya K Soraya, Amariah O, Lorena K and Aidan S. The final ranking speaks for itself...and what an epic finish it was! SQUAD ROUNDUP
LIÈGE INTERNATIONAL OPEN – BELGIUM – 4 th OCTOBER 2025 This is a well-known, top-level tournament where our athletes have the chance to earn national points by finishing on the podium.
